Trip Overview

Take on Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough in this iconic 24-mile challenge. The English 3 Peaks is one of the UK's most famous trekking challenges — three Yorkshire Dales summits completed in a single day, with stunning views and serious physical demands. The traditional route forms a circular walk starting and finishing in Horton-in-Ribblesdale. Each peak has its own character: Pen-y-ghent's dramatic cliff face, Whernside's long ridgeline (the highest point in Yorkshire), and Ingleborough's flat summit plateau. Completing all three in under 12 hours is the standard target.

Who is this for?

Extreme

A tough single-day challenge requiring strong fitness and mountain walking experience. You should be comfortable walking 10+ hours on rough terrain. The cumulative climbing makes this significantly harder than the individual peaks suggest.

Easy — No experience needed
Moderate — Some fitness required
Challenging — Good fitness essential
Extreme — Very high fitness required

Common Questions

They're the same challenge — the Yorkshire 3 Peaks and English 3 Peaks are different names for the same route.
Traditionally under 12 hours. Most charity groups complete in 10-14 hours.
Whernside is the longest climb but Pen-y-ghent has the steepest sections.
Mixed — limestone pavement, peat bogs, rocky paths, and some road.
Include hill walks in your training. Flat-only training won't prepare you for the descents.

★★★★★

"This was my first time cycling with Adventure Cafe; first time riding from London to Paris and my first time riding this sort of distance over 3 days. Lots of preparation had gone into this from AC prior to departing London."
